$50 American Buffalo Bullion Coins
The 24-karat gold bullion coin, Gold Buffalo or also known as American Buffalo made its first debut on June 22, 2006 and it was offered for sale by the United States Mint. This was a historical event for many numismatists as this was the first time ever the US Government has minted pure 24-karat gold coins for the public. The face value for American Buffalo coin is US$50 with the initial 2006 price of the proof coin was $800 and steadily increased to $899.95 in 2007.
The design of the American Buffalo gold bullion coin is originally from the design of the Buffalo nickel (Type 1), issued in early 1913. The obverse features a Native American man whilst on the reverse depicts an American bison (commonly referred to as a buffalo) on a mound of dirt. The words "$50 1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD" can be seen on the mound with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", appears the left of and beneath the buffalo's head.
