First Spouse Gold Coin Auctions
The First Spouse gold coin series was released by the U.S. Mint in the year 2007, as a companion series to the coin series that featured past U.S. Presidents. The first of the series to be publicly sold to the public was Martha Washington, the First Spouse of no other than George Washington, hailed as the father of American democracy.
Originally, the coins were to be sold in sets of four, priced at more than a thousand dollars per set. However, after some consideration, the U.S. Mint decided that it would be better if the coins were sold individually, so that it would be more affordable to collectors everywhere.
